Kuala Lumpur

29 02 2008

First: Cathay Pacific has really good food.  Recommended.

Second: The Hong Kong airport is interesting, but everything is closed when you arrive after the night flight from the US.  However a photo study of the various modernist chairs of the HKG airport is forthcoming.

Third: arriving in Kuala Lumpur on the train from the airport, don’t assume that because your hostel is only 1km away, you will be able to reach it on foot.  I have never seen a more pedestrian-unfriendly city.  Sidewalks end abruptly and switch sides where it’s impossible to cross a raging torrent of cars, calm city streets become freeways, all roads bend unpredictably, and crossing the rivers and expressways require gigantic detours.

Today has been fun, though.  More to come on that.  I plan to keep the blog posts limited in number, and meaningful in length.  Just wanted to confirm that I’ve arrived safely and everything is on track.  Should be in KL for another few days, and I hope to start uploading pictures soon.

Great news about your arrival! I thought of you without envy at 4:30 p.m. Pacific time on Wednesday, sixteen and a half hours after you took off… and still on the plane.

Happy trails. Looking forward to following the blog.
